A low-carbon steel with manganese added to produce a harder more uniform case when carburized. It has higher mechanical properties and better machining characteristics than other low-carbon steels. Most cold finished bars are produced by cold drawing. In this process, oversize hot rolled bars, which have been cleaned to remove scale, are drawn through dies to the required size. The larger sizes are generally turned and polished, the hot rolled bars having been machine turned, rather than drawn, followed by abrasive polishing. Turned and polished bars tend to have a somewhat brighter finish than cold drawn bars.
Unless cutting directions are provided, we will cut 20’, 21’ & 24’ length items ordered to 8ft length and for sheets or plates of 4’ x 10’ size will be cut into 4’ x 5’. Shipping charges quoted in your shopping cart are for items cut to 8ft or less. Max Length for UPS shipping is 105".
